PERFORMANCE

Design Features for Unmatched Performance.

  • Light Displacement: The ODC 48 comes out of the shed weighing 18,431 pounds, which is ½ the weight of a comparable 48-foot vessel.
  • Performance Rigging: Rig and sail area optimized for upwind and downwind performance.  Speeds considered to be unmatched in its class.
  • Streamlined Hull Design: Reduces the exposed hull below the waterline to reduce drag.
  • Wake Displacement: The region of disturbed flow downstream of the vessel caused by the flow of the water around the hull.
  • Upwind Performance: The use of daggerboards and an optimized sail plan allows the ODISEA to sail closer to the wind.
  • Bridge Deck Clearance: Reduces the tendency of water to “slam” into the saloon floor increasing resistance and providing an unpleasant passage.
  • Low Windage: The larger the vessel area above the waterline, the greater the resistance it generates.

 

Odisea yachts are designed from the ground up to optimize these elements but not compromise on comfort.

SAFETY

The 2 main unique safety features of the ODC48 are its stiff, strong aluminium construction and its performance that permits it to outrun weather. However there are many more aspects of the design that speak to safety:

LOW PROFILE

The sail work area is close to the waterline which not only improves the drive on the sail but also lowers the centre of gravity of that work area making it much harder to lift the windward hull out of the water.

KICK-UP RUDDERS

The rudders on the ODC48 will release and kick-up if it hits a sandbank, reef or floating log, this combined with the shaft drive allows the OC48 to maneuver in 0.55M of water. An added benefit is that it can readily be beached.

LOW PROFILE

The sail's center of effort is close to the waterline, which not only improves the sail's drive but also lowers the centre of gravity of that work area, making it much harder to lift the windward hull out of the water.

KICK-UP RUDDERS

The rudders on the ODC48 will release and kick up if the hull hits a sandbank, reef, or floating object. This, combined with the shaft drive, allows the OC48 to maneuver in 0.55M of water. An added benefit is that it can readily be beached.

Watertight bulkheads

The stem of each keel and bow are reinforced with heavier plates running the length of the hull to dissipate forces. There are three watertight compartments in each hull to provide buoyancy in the unlikely event of a breach.

Externalized Steering

The steering system is conveniently located outside the main body of the boat, providing exceptional access for repairs and maintenance.

Serviceability Under Passage

All wiring, plumbing, engines, and through-holes are clearly labeled and readily accessible. This simplifies troubleshooting and repairs, keeping you in control.

Raised Hatches

Odisea Catamarans equips the ODC48 with raised hatches as standard. While flush hatches are available upon request, raised hatches offer superior leak resistance, giving you one less worry on your journey.

  • Flexible Accommodations: Choose from 3 or 4 berth layouts and 2 head configurations to perfectly suit your needs. All cabins offer comfortable queen-size beds and ample storage throughout the vessel.

  • Unwind & Entertain:
    • The ODC48 boasts a large, sociable saloon with abundant seating, perfect for relaxing and entertaining.
    • In the cockpit, additional seating and a removable table create a versatile space for enjoying the outdoors.
    • The Galley is customizable with 1 or 2 fridge/freezer combinations and provides additional storage for extended voyages.
    • The interior combines style and functionality with honeycomb core cabinetry featuring veneer and hardwood edging.

  • Command Center: Navigate effortlessly with the forward-facing navigation desk, offering a clear view for smooth sailing, even during night watches.
